Acting for Opera

Description

Acting for Opera April 27 - June 1, 2025 Sundays - 2:00-4:00pm Instructors: Pamela Vogel & Amanda Martinez Cost: $360 Performing opera is one of the most technically challenging of all the performing arts. Acting well in operas can be challenging because the technical demands are often in conflict with the task of creating organic dramatic moments on the stage. The hard skills of musical precision can often take precedence over the soft skills of acting and interpretation. Composers, conductors, music teachers, and even directors frequently leave the soft skills for the performer to work out on their own. This frequently leads to performers struggling through or ignoring the acting and focusing mostly on the technical aspects of their singing. This 6-week mini course addresses some of the challenges for opera performers and will give you resources for self-reliance on the stage. It will provide better understanding of the acting process, and how to apply it to opera performances. Pamela Vogel is an accomplished actor who has worked with many singers in performance, and Amanda Martinez is a classically trained singer and actor with a strong background in classical music and opera. Together they will break down the first steps of the actor's process and help you access the tools for better performances.
